Karate Training Holidays - Mojacar, Andalucia, Spain.
For nearly ten years, the AAFA has been taking karate groups to Mojacar in Andalucía, Spain, where all training takes place on a secluded beach, with nothing but the sea in front and the mountains behind, the sky above and the sand beneath your feet.
The brainchild of Richard Ruddick, he was inspired by Enoeda, the legendary karate master of our age and Richard’s sensei. As a student, he was taken training on the beach by Sensei Enoeda and was impressed by the feeling of total connection with the elements (not to mention the added conditioning from dragging your feet through the sand!)
With 37 years of karate, and 30 years of teaching karate, Sensei Richard is especially skilled in the practical applications of Shotokan, but he has also trained in Aikido and Go-ju Kai. He is the chief sensei of the AAFA and, with the assistance of Luke Williams (10 years training, 5 years teaching), will be your instructor.
Sessions start mid morning, to finish before the day fully heats up. They are hard work, but you don’t necessarily have to have any experience in karate to get full benefit. The AAFA has always welcomed all abilities including absolute beginners – all you need to bring is your spirit (or “zanche” if you want the Japanese word).
Of course, our holidays aren’t all about the training and, after the session, you’ll be free to relax on one of the many Mojacar beaches, or by the hotel pool. Alternatively, while transport is provided between the airport, hotel and training beach, why not hire your own car and explore the region. Andalucía is an area famed for its stunning scenery and traditional markets
and tapas bars. You’ll also have two days off from training during your stay, when you’ll have a chance to venture further afield to historic places like The Alhambra at Granada, the Parque Natural Cabo de Gata, the potteries at Nijar, or The Fort of the Sun at Lorca; or if you prefer something more light-hearted, there are at least four Western theme parks just over an hour’s drive away.
